I constantly reconnect; forget the network and then reconnect to it; turn off the wifi connection and then put it back on. Then the PC will work fine for weeks and then start up again.
Thank you on advance for your help. Hi Carolyn, I found a page that seems to have quite a bit of useful info that might help you narrow down the problem. Let us know if you figure it out! Hi Xavier, you might check the link below on the Windows forum for others discussing similar issues.

Windows 8 is essentially two operating systems, not one, bolted together in a not-very smooth way. Metro is designed for tablets; the traditional Desktop is for PCs and laptops.
There's very little connection between the two; the interfaces look different from one another and work differently from one another. If you like a seamless, integrated operating system Windows 8 might not be for you. If you want to download a Metro app to run in Windows 8, you'll only be able to do it via the Windows Store. This breaks with the long-standing Windows tradition of allowing people to download any app they want.
That means that you'll only be allowed to download Metro apps that Microsoft says you can run, just like Apple does with the App Store. In essence, this is a form of censorship. You'll be able to download any app you want to the Desktop, but you can already do that in Windows 7, so why bother to go to Windows 8?
Businesses will face serious problems upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 because of Metro it could require retraining users, countless help calls to the Help Desk to aid with Metro problems, and deployment woes. Given that Metro is designed for consumers, not businesses, it's not clear what benefit businesses will get out of Windows 8. Like many other longtime computer users, the new Start menu did not appeal to me — it was bloated and not very efficient.
With that excuse out of the way, readers should know that Windows 10 is a far more efficient, user-friendly, and secure OS than Windows 7. They fear the unknown. So, yes, I am sick and tired of people who just repeat the unwarranted criticism of new versions of Windows.
I concur that the Start10 applet is a solid choice if one desires the old start menu. So the only reason I can think of for switching to Windows 10 is that eventually Microsoft will stop supporting it. Thanks for pointing me to Classic Start.
Was offered a free upgrade to 10 some time ago and tried a dozen times. Read everything on the MS site to prepare for the upgrade and followed directions, new drivers, uninstalling conflicts, etc. Returning to previous version. What is left out of this discussion is the fact that win10 is uncontrollable — it does what it wants, when it wants, with no hint what it does and why.
Which is a classical description of malware. The question if there is today any alternative I have not seen addressed anywhere so far, so staying with the less intrusive and more controllable version is not such a bad idea.
Win 8. BTW, completely unrelated, does anyone know of any program which will accept data from! I take care of my own security. I mayyyyy upgrade to WIN8. Thousands of people read Ask Leo! Does anyone know if you can upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and then install Windows 8 over that and have it activated for free?
I also have Paint Shop Pro Ultimate in my computer. I am now running Windows 10 Pro version and cannot see how to transfer photos other than putting my storage card into my Epson Artisan printer. Please help.
I have had VLC for a number of years. Very bad Microsoft, actually it is very disgraceful. I have Windows 10 installed on an ancient HP G62 laptop. Perhaps the DVD is the problem in your case. Windows 10 is gruesomely slow on the G62, so I dual-boot with Linux, and most of the time that is what I use. I have an ancient 9 year old Sony Vaio laptop. That might speed your p;der machine.
It took many hours from Canon technical support and escalating to higher level, who ultimately said it is a Windows problem, not theirs. The same software and hardware same Printer with its Snner works on two other computers. I am the only owner of the computer that I bought brand new from Lenovo and I am the only user of it…I tried running the Scan as an Administrator, still got the same error message.
On another one, Desktop, suddenly it referred to its Windows as unauthorized and will work only for 30 days till I get it validated! As it was Windows-XP, upgraded to Windows-7 then to 8.
But I had, under pressure, to fall under Microsoft pressure.
