My Opinion It's pretty clear that this is about alcoholism, from what Chris has said, and how with an addiction you feel like you need it, and like it helps you, but then even when you've realized how bad it is for you, you can't quit, and you know even while it seems to help, it's, in fact, still hurting you and tearing you up inside.

You feel like you need this person to keep going on with your life, and at first everything seems okay, for the most part, but then you realize that they're hurting you, but you can't leave because you think you need them.
