Part 1. Remove any old nail polish. Wet a cotton ball with nail polish remover and remove any traces of polish from your fingernails. Be sure to work the cotton ball into the cuticle of the nail to get stubborn polish out of any creases where the nail meets the skin. Push back your cuticles. Use a cuticle pusher to gently press the edges of your cuticles back, working from one side of each nail to the other.
This lifts any dead skin that lays flat against the nail. Do this to all ten fingers. Shape your nails as desired. Use a nail file to shape your nails into a square or oval shape as you prefer.
Use the coarse side of the board to even out nail length first. Then, using the finer, less coarse side of the board, rub the nail from one side to the other to create the shape you want. Buff your nails. Use a nail buffer or the finer gritted side of the nail file to rub the top of each nail gently. This creates an etched surface that will help your polish adhere more fully, extending the life of your shatter manicure. Golden shatter nail varnish would work great here as well.
I liked also the plum OPI Super Bass Shatter top coat, it does work well over lighter shades such as this simmering baby blue. Neither me nor my daughter could get convinced to the white Rimmel Crack Your Colour — Break The Ice varnish, it looks more like correction pen than nail polish in my opinion but I will give it a try in different combinations and update this post shortly…. When using crackle nail polish be sure to let the base coat dry properly first before applying shatter top coat to avoid smudged colours.
One regular nail polish for the base and one crackle polish for upper layer. So choose base color that will go nicely with the top crackle polish. After applying the base polish, wait until it completely dries. It must be completely dry so the crackle polish can crack nicely. Before applying, shake the crackle polish until it mixed well. After applying, just wait and watch while the polish is doing its crackle magic.
