Which maxwell screen

I did some tests in controlled lighting looking through the camera at a picture in my basement to show the difference the screen makes in case anyone was thinking about purchasing it. Alan www. Re: Maxwell Screen vs. Shen Hao Ground Glass Nice comparison!! It made a world of difference. Bright screens are not cheap but as your example shows, they can be well worth the money. Thanks for sharing! If it's worth it to you, great, but given the relative prices and the differences I see here I'd probably go with the fresnel.

It looks like the fresnel provides a bigger jump up from the plain one, then a smaller but still quite significant jump for the Maxwell. It's really impressive but still - wow, that's an expensive screen. My Flickr page Most blest is he who lives free and bold and nurses never a grief, for the fearful man is dismayed by aught, and the mean one mourns over giving. They are expensive but it is only a one time expense that brings you years and years of pleasure unlike the wine and women I otherwise would have squandered the money on.

Shen Hao Ground Glass The way I justified the expense of a Maxwell screen is to buy a Chamonix F1 which is known to have focus issues, so it was cheaper, then had the screen replaced with a Maxwell installed by the technician Maxwell recommended.

His ground glass is quite expensive as mentioned above, but the relative brightness is worth every dollar you will part with! I like the comparison in the first post and can say it is certainly parallel with my own experience of old glass vs new. Good screen. But, it took about weeks to get my camera back, with no communication in-between. I think he's doing better than that now, but you should ask.

Great screen. The Rollei screen will not fit his Hasselblad. Better than both Maxwell and Brightscreen. The Maxwell screen is noticeably brighter and more even, but the frame lines on the Brightscreen are more usable 2x2 dark lines Brightscreen " 3 crop lines" vs.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Both are much nicer than the screen that the 3. The crappy and very expensive in Tokyo Rollei strap on the 3. And the stupid pin in the middle of the fitting on the camera means that a modern strap won't work. At least it failed at home without resulting in a camera drop. Right now, the centered microprism isn't cutting it as I usually focus and recompose which results in out of focus images due to the shifting of the thin plane of focus.

However, I've heard conflicting things about this screen's ability to actually allow the end user to determine critical focus. Just wanted to see if other users could chime in on this screen hopefully the specific brilliant matte model. If this screen seriously allows me to "snap" in focus with my lenses, I'm more than willing to spend the money.

Any input would be appreciated. Mar 13, 2. Have you consider the chimney finder? It blocks all external light and has a mild 1. It is much easier to focus than with pentaprism finder, the big downwards is that vertical framing is very difficult or even imposible handheld. The positive side is that it is much cheaper than a Maxwell screen. Mar 13, 3. Messages: 1, I have bought two screens from Bill. The difference in brightness was not that much but the focus snap was better. It also was less reflective so looking down the chimney from above I saw more of the picture than my own reflection.

Probably not and I probably wouldn't buy one for that camera. One thing to compare to, at the time I did have a Hasselblad as well with the latest Acute Matte D and the screen was as good as that. Now, the second one I bought from Bill was for my now deceased Rollei i. Would I buy it again. Oh yes. The screen is night and day compared to the stock screen I had. One thing to note, I don't like focus aids and like plain matte screens so I can focus all over it without distractions.
